AMA – One man was arrested and another is still being sought for an armed robbery at the post office in Ama, March 13. Mark Singleton, 17, 239 Allen St., Ama, was arrested March 19 and booked with armed robbery. Bond was set at $1 million. A second suspect, Norman Singleton III, 28, 187 Allen Street, Ama, is also wanted in the case. According to authorities, the two men entered the post office and robbed a 48-year-old Hahnville woman at gunpoint March 13 at 11:15 a.m. The postal employee was working in the back of the office away from her desk, when the two known suspects entered and robbed the woman with a semiautomatic handgun. The gun was pointed at the clerk, and the suspects demanded that she open the cash drawer. They stole an undetermined amount of money, money orders and a money order machine before fleeing the scene. Though both men disguised themselves by wearing red bandanas, the two who entered the building were recognized by witnesses from their neighborhood who were also inside. They were quickly identified. Authorities said that the two Singletons, cousins, fled in a tan Ford Explorer, which was driven by a third person. The driver’s identity is unknown at this time. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are trying to determine who the other man is. The two known suspects both have prior arrests. At a press conference held March 20, the St. Charles Sheriff Department officials said that a $10,000 reward is being offered by the Postal Inspectors Office to anyone who leads to the arrest and conviction of Norman Singleton III. Norman Singleton III’s many tattoos may help identify him. On his left arm he has pictures of a moon and star, a sun and a pyramid. On his right arm are pictures of an eye and a cross. He has the words Know Thy Self’ across his front torso. His hair is usually braided. According to Lt. Dwayne LaGrange of the St. Charles Sheriff’s Department, the suspect at large should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about the case should call Detective Othello Carter at -6807 or postal inspectors at 589-1229.
