Stay sensible while enjoying 2001 carnival

Revelry bursts forth this weekend in the River Parishes, with parades and Carnival-related events from end to end. Among these are the massive parades in LaPlace, Luling and Des Allemands. This is a time for fun, enjoying one another’s company and a little bit of showing off our communities. However, this is not a time for overly-rowdy, disrespectful or crude behavior. We should at all times remember this is a family-oriented community and it is important for us to set a good example to our young people. Certainly, there are those who will misbehave no matter how many times this message is presented. Yet, the message must be said, if only to help safeguard our children from getting into serious trouble, now or in the future. The instinct for many is to kick back, relax, let the hair down, unwind and let loose at mass events such as carnival parades. However, we should not lose control, and we should stay safe and watch out for each other. There are hazards at every hand. Children could chase floats down the street and get hurt. Fights aggravated by too many drinks is always a possibility on every corner. Pickpockets, thieves and car burglars are always a hazard as well. So let’s watch out for one another and keep an eye, especially on the children, not only for what they do but what they will see. This way, carnival parades in the River Parishes can stay family-friendly, fun and frivolous. It’s a time for everyone to have fun. Don’t mess it up for yourself or anyone else.
