THE CROWNING CROSS is set atop the new Ascension of Our Lord Church in LaPlace. The cross, which was specially made for the Popes visiting to New Orleans in 1987, was set aside until the Rev. Benjamin Piovan purchased it for the new church. The church, which cost $3 million, is scheduled to be completed around the end of May.
