Hahnville moves closer to clinching district

Wildcats stay in race; LHS, RCS win in non-district
RACELAND – Hahnville used a 20-13 third quarter run to pull away to a 68-55 victory at Central Lafourche Friday night.
Hahnville kept its hold on the District 7-5A lead, improving to 9-1 in district and 25-5 overall. Central Lafourche fell to 17-11 overall and 4-6 in district play. Hahnville led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and 33-26 at halftime. Dawan Landry scored a game-high 21 points for the Tigers. Aaron Alexander added 12 points and Harold Comminie 11.
Destrehan 81, Thibodaux 69
DESTREHAN – Mark Stewart and Lionel Turner combined for 42 points to lead Destrehan to an 81-69 victory over Thibodaux Friday night. Destrehan remained in the hunt in the District 7-5A race at 8-3 and improved to 18-12 overall. Thibodaux fell to 7-3 in district and 21-9 overall. Stewart had 22 points while Turner added another 20 points. Jaszmine Eugene contributed 13 points. Destrehan trailed, 30-28, at the half but took a 47-44 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Donaldsonville 61, St. Charles Catholic 54
DONALDSONVILLE – Donaldsonville moved ahead of St. Charles Catholic in the District 9-3A race with a 61-54 victory Friday night. Donaldsonville improved to 2-4 in district and 14-16 overall. St. Charles Catholic is a half-game back at 2-5 in district and 21-11 overall. The Tigers jumped out to a 34-20 lead before the Comets rallied to make it 46-39 at the end of the third quarter. Shandall Joseph had 16 points to lead Donaldsonville. Edmund Joseph added 15 points and Damarrius Lewis nine. Daress Nicholas had a game-high 25 points for the Comets, including three 3-pointers. Michael Bonura added 13 points and Alton Alexander 10.
Newman 56, Riverside 48
NEW ORLEANS – Riverside hung with Newman throughout the teams District 9-2A matchup Friday night but the Greenies held on for a 56-48 victory. Newman remained in first place in District 9-2A at 10-0 while moving to 16-9 overall. Riverside is third with a 6-5 district record and 15-13 overall. Newman led 28-24 at halftime before Riverside cut the deficit to 40-37 going into the fourth quarter. Michael Schoen led the Rebels with 16 points. Craig Tearney added 13 and Damian Melancon 10.
Redeemer-Seton 85, West St. John 77
EDGARD – Redeemer-Seton remained a game back of Newman in the District 9-2A race with an 85-77 victory at West St. John Friday night. Redeemer-Seton moved to 9-1 in district and 22-8 overall. The Rams played host to Newman last night in a battle for first place. West St. John fell to 5-5 in district and 12-9 on the season. West St. John pulled to within 56-53 at the end of the third quarter after trailing 38-29 at the half. Devin Herbert led West St. John with 20 points. Josh Lumar and Dwayne Bastain each contributed 16 points and Lionel Howard 15.
Lutcher 91, East St. John 60
RESERVE – Donnie Francois scored a game-high 22 points to lead Lutcher to a 91-60 victory at East St. John in non-district play Friday night. Lutcher, which played St. James for first place in District 9-3A last night, improved to 20-11 overall while East St. John fell to 4-20. Chris Johnson added 16 points for the Bulldogs. Jalvin Fluence had 13, Reggie Scott 12 and Jeremy Foreman 10. East St. John was led by Darwin Pittman with 21 points. Richard Johnson contributed 11 points and Ronald Johnson 10 points. Lutcher outscored East St. John, 52-26, in the second half after leading 39-34 at halftime.
Reserve Christian 66, Faith Christian 49
NEW ORLEANS – Reserve Christian pulled out to a 39-20 halftime lead on its way to a 66-49 victory at Faith Christian Friday night. Reserve Christian improved to 32-15 overall while Faith Christian fell to 9-24. Demond Carter led Reserve Christian with 17 points. Frankie Francois tossed in 15 points and Paul Labiche 13. Matt Jackson added another 12.
