DHS clinches second

DESTREHAN – Destrehan clinched second place in District 7-5A with a 65-18 victory over Thibodaux Friday night.

Destrehan finished the regular season at 25-8 overall and 9-3 in district. The Lady Cats will host either McDonogh or McDonogh 35 in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs this week.Thibodaux finished at 0-12 in district and 0-20 overall.The Lady Cats held Thibodaux scoreless in the first quarter in taking a 14-0 lead. It was 31-8 at halftime and 49-10 at the end of the third quarter.Joevone Markey led all scorers with 12 points. Ashley Sentimore added 11 and Meagan Stock and Johnniesha Luckett 10 apiece.

Hahnville 49,

Central Lafourche 40

RACELAND – Toyelle Rickson scored 27 points as Hahnville wrapped up a playoff spot with a 49-40 victory at Central Lafourche Friday evening.Hahnville finished third in District 7-5A at 8-4 and improved to 16-12 overall. The Lady Tigers will play at John Ehret in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs this week.Central Lafourche finished at 6-6 in district and 15-11 overall.Cashmire White added 13 points for Hahnville.

West St. John 34,

Redeemer-Seton 28

EDGARD – West St. John wrapped up the 2000-01 season with a 34-28 victory over Redeemer-Seton on Senior Night Friday.The Lady Rams finished at 5-7 in district and 9-14 overall. Redeemer-Seton was 10-15 overall and 5-7 in district.West St. John trailed 9-2 at the end of the first quarter but rallied to take a 25-19 lead into the fourth quarter.Janell Morris and Keyen Weber each scored eight points to lead West St. John. Senior Kita Harry added six points.PLAYOFF BRACKETS ANNOUNCED – BATON ROUGE – The brackets for the state girls basketball tournament have been released.District 7-5A champion East St. John will play Higgins at home in the bi-district round. Runner-up Destrehan will host McDonogh in bi-district. Hahnville, which finished third in the district, travels to play John Ehret.Lutcher, the third-place finisher out of District 9-3A, travels to Karr. District 9-2A third place finisher Riverside travels to Jewel Sumner. And District 11-B runnerup Reserve Christian travels to either Starkey or Runnels.
