Registration for the St. Charles Parish Recreation Spring/Summer Bowling League will take place Jan. 8 at River Bend Lanes. Any one 50 years of age or older is invited to join in three games on nine-pin, no-tap bowling.
The league will start bowling on Jan. 15, and will be held on the following dates: Jan. 15, 22 and 29; Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26; March 5, 12, 19 and 26; April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; and May 7, 14, 21 and 28. A nine-pin, no-tap covered dish banquet will be held on June 11.
Summer fun bowling will be from June 18 through July 9. Registration for the Fall/Winter League will take place July 16. The league will be held on the following dates: July 23 and 30; Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27; Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24; Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; Nov. 5, 12, 19 and 26; and Dec. 3.

Senior Olympic registration forms will be available in the St. Charles Parish Recreation Department, Council on Aging Centers, R.S.V.P. Office, River Bend Lanes and the Willowdale Pro Shop next week. Registration fees for all St. Charles Parish seniors are paid for by the Recreation Department.

The St. John Parish Louisiana Hurricanes of the North American Football League are looking for players with college experience. Players must be willing to commit to three practices a week. A Hurricanes tryout combine will be held in the spring. Time and place will be announced at a later date.

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All-Star Summer Basketball camp. Boys ages 8-19 and girls ages 10-19 can apply. Players are selected by invitational only.
Past participants include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, Antawn Jamison, Christian Laettner, Tom Gugliotta and Trajan Langdon.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.
The Golf Sampler Card is $44 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 61 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Golf Club of New Orleans at Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of the gold card will also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golf towel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2001.
Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievements K-12 in- school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievement and its 1,000 volunteers will teach more than 30,000 local students in over 160 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisianas new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwanted vehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”
An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free. The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally-retarded children and adults in Louisiana.
Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction as the fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
