PAULINA – For one family, Christmas eve brought heartache as their 13 year-old daughter was struck by a vehicle while crossing River Road in Paulina.
At 10:39 p.m. The girl was running along with her cousin. When they reached the River Road she paused and then started to run. She was struck by a 1985 Toyota truck, driven by Sarah Ordoyne, age 69.
By the look of here injuries, the girl must have stopped when she saw she couldnt make it and tried to turn around, said St. James Sheriff Willy Martin.
The girl suffered serious injuries including a broken pelvis, crack in four parts, a torn bladder, broken nose, serious trauma to the head and other injuries, said Martin. The head trauma turned out to be just a bad concussion.
The girl was out of it for the first few days, having difficulty recognizing her family members, but that injury is now better, said Martin.
The girl was transported to Charity Hospital. The driver was given a citation for having no drivers license.
