Chapelle hands HHS first defeat of season

BOUTTE – Archbishop Chapelle kept Hahnville on the defensive Tuesday night, handing the Lady Tigers their first loss of the season, 3-1, at Tiger Stadium.

Chapelle improved to 5-1-1 on the season while Hahnville fell to 2-1.

Chapelle took the offensive for most of the first half. The Chipmunks gottheir first attack going seven minutes into the contest as Erica Siemssen stole a pass and found Heather Penico on the right sidelines. Penico sent ashot in but had it grabbed by Hahnville goalie Jennifer Hicks.

Two minutes later, Katie Jensen grabbed another steal and was taken down outside the box. But the Chipmunks’ ensuing free kick sailed over the net. Hahnville had its first chance at the 14-minute mark as Christy Sincavage sent a shot in that Chapelle goalie Bridget Toal came out to grab on the right side of the goal.

Chapelle regained control as Angelle Hotard sent a centering pass to Kristen Cason that was deflected away by Julie Porche.

Penico grabbed a steal and sent in a shot on goal that was grabbed by Hicks at the 23-minute mark. Musso stole the clearing pass and aimed a shot forthe top part of the net that was grabbed by Hicks.

Chapelle broke the stalemate a minute later as Cason took a centering pass and aimed a shot at the right corner of the net to make it 1-0.

The Chipmunks made it 2-0 in the final minutes of the half as Siemssen sent in a high centering pass to Emily Kimble. Kimble deflected the ball up andheaded a shot in past Hicks.

Hahnville came right back as Hollin Dufrene centered a pass to Laura Seal who had her shot deflected away by Toal. On the ensuing corner kick,Dufrene centered a pass to Sincavage. Sincavage had her shot blocked,grabbed the rebound and knocked it past Toal, making it 2-1 in the final minute of the first half.

But Chapelle quickly regained the momentum as the second half opened. Fiveminutes in, Siemssen took a pass in front of the net, got past Hicks and knocked a shot in, increasing the Chipmunks’ lead to 3-1.

Chapelle had a chance to increase its lead at the 15-minute mark as Penico’s shot from the left side went wide right.

Hahnville used good ball movement to threaten at the 26-minute mark. Sealtook the ball downfield, passed to Dufrene who sent a pass in to Dupont.

Dupont got the ball back to Dufrene whose shot from the left corner sailed wide left.

The Lady Tigers had one last chance at the 34-minute mark as Dufrene sent a centering pass in to Seal whose shot from in front sailed high.
