The Titans were formed this year to provide fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders an opportunity to play organized tackle football, said St.

John Parish councilman Duaine Duffy, the program’s founder. The team ismade up of players from Ascension of Our Lord, Our Lady of Grace, St.

Peter, Sacred Heart, Garyville/Mt. Airy Magnet School and John L. Ory.”What’s most important in life and football is the kids,” Duffy said in addressing the large audience. “Parents realize that and that’s why wehave this turnout tonight.”Harold Keller of Get High on Life was the Master of Ceremonies.

“Character will always win the day,” Keller said, quoting from a book. “AsHorace Greely said, fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, wishes take wings and only character endures.”The guest speaker for the evening was St. Charles Catholic head footballcoach Frank Monica. Monica thanked Duffy for the program and talked abouthis four downs for life.

“The first down is attitude,” Monica said. “You have to have a positiveattitude. You have to be positive in everything you do.”The second down is set goals. Write it down and make it achievable.Write down you short-term and long-range goals. If you don’t know whereyou are going, how are you supposed to know what road to take. Don’tdeviate from those goals.

“Third down is determination. Michael Jordan missed over 9,000 shots inhis life but he had 26 game winners. Abraham Lincoln lost 10 elections inhis life. You must have a passion for whatever you do.”The fourth down, and if you don’t have this one you punt, none of the other ones matter, is you have to have God in your life. The most important thingis your relationship with God. Remember to always put God first in yourlife.”Jackets and certificates were then awarded to members of the Titans’ varsity and junior varsity.
