Lutcher sweeps district honors

LUTCHER – The District 9-3A champion Lutcher Bulldogs swept the all- district awards announced this week.

Head coach Tim Detillier was named the district coach of the year after leading the Bulldogs to their second straight district championship with a 4-0 record. Lutcher advanced to the regionals against Parkview Baptist,finishing with an 8-4 overall record.

Split end Chris Johnson was selected as the offensive MVP. Johnson wasalso named to the first team at split end and to the second team as a return specialist.

Defensive back James Williams was the district’s defensive MVP.

Williams was also selected to the first team at defensive back.

In addition to Johnson, the Bulldogs placed three other players on the first team offense. Selected were Ben Dicharry at guard, Tyronne Martin atrunning back and Risley St. Germain at quarterback. Tackle Joey Zimmer,kicker T.J. Bourgeois and running back William Adams were named to thesecond team.

Lutcher also had six players named first team all-district on defense.

Selected were nose guard Lon Clayton, lineman Fredrick Wallace, end Courtney Long, linebacker Lawrence Williams and defensive backs Williams and David Pittman. Lineman Atrez Weber and linebacker RyanRoussel were named to the second team.

District runner-up St. James had five players named to the first teamoffense. Named were guard Gerren Davis, tackle Marc Smith, tight endJustin Aubert, running back Travell Steib and utility player Davin Dennis.

Selected to the second team were center Glenn Melancon, split end Davin Dennis, running back Michael Harry and quarterback Chris Hymel.

Wildcats making the first team defense were end Shane Kliebert, defensive back John Ambrose and Dennis at return specialist. Second teamselections were linebacker Bennett Cunningham and defensive back Johtrell Phillip.

St. Charles Catholic had punter Kevin Blank and utility player ChrisCancienne named to the first team defense. Selected to the second teamoffense were tackle Justin Kinchen, tight end Brent Deroche, running back Doug Friloux and quarterback Jason Waguespack. Second team defensiveselections were Cancienne at end and Matt Arceneaux and Jerry Gair at defensive back.

Other selections to the all-district first team offense were E.D. White’sChris Rodrigue at center, Corey Parenton at tackle, Jon Becnel at running back and Justin Verret at kicker and Donaldsonville’s Edmond Joseph at split end.

E.D. White’s lineman Stephen Raynal and linebacker Josh Pergue andDonaldsonville linebacker Antonio Johnson and defensive back Dio Bernard were named to the first team on defense.

Lutcher also placed Jared Alexis, Aaron Berthelot, Corey Bourgeois, Donavan Bourgeois, Dervin Davis, Jeremy Foreman, Donnie Francois, Jonathan Lear, Chris Lee, Seth Rizzuto and Leigh Veron on the honorable mention team.

Named to the honorable mention team from St. Charles Catholic were HankBeadle, Bret Deroche, Derrick Gaubert, Shannon Graver, Jay Guidry, Phillip Hoffman, Toby Jacob, Aaron Johnson, Randy Madere, Chris Ordeneaux, Garrett Stephens and Jeremy Triche.

Honorable mention selections from St. James were Quentin Batiste, KennieHarrison, Kendrew Isom, Tyrus Luke, Desi Steib, Montrell Steib and Thaddeus Sutherland.
