The Second Annual Pirate Basketball Tournament will be heldThursday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Albert Cammon Middle Schoolgym.

Teams competing are Cammon, Hurst, Martin, Landry, West St. John,Godchaux, Garyville and Rummel. Games will be held 5-9 p.m. on Nov. 30and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 2. Admission is $2 for students and $3 foradults. Concessions will be available.

The Roberto Clemente All-Stars are now recruiting baseball playersto participate in intensive six-day instructional camps to be held Dec. 26-31 in Miami and Phoenix.

The Arizona camp will be at the spring training home of the Chicago Cubsand the Florida camp will be at the former home of the USA National Team.

Both facilities feature several major league fields, batting cages andclubhouses.

The staff will include major league scouts and college coaches fromFlorida, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Florida International, Alabama-Huntsville,Rutgers and Georgia.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers todrive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses. The Golf Sampler Card is $44 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of61 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, BayouBarriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Golf Club of New Orleans at Eastover,Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge andTimberlane. Supporters of the gold card will also receive a complimentaryJunior Achievement golf towel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec.31, 2001.

Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12in-school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievementand its 1,000 volunteers will teach more than 30,000 local students inover 160 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and toprepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motorvehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”

An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number andSpecial Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally-retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has thetitle. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductibledonation to Special Olympics.
