SCC boys, Lutcher girls fifth at state meet

NATCHITOCHES – The St. Charles Catholic boys and Lutcher girls ran tofifth-place finishes in Class 3A at the Louisiana High School AthleticAssociation’s state cross country meet held at Northwestern StateUniversity Wednesday.
St. Charles Catholic finished with 201 points. Breaux Bridge captured theClass 3A title with 56 points, edging out West Feliciana which had 59points. E.D. White was third with 103 points, followed by Iowa with 109.
Lake Charles-Boston (207), Teurlings Catholic (211), Benton (217),Parkview Baptist (242) and Pearl River (243) rounded out the top 10.
Lutcher came in 13th with 305 points.
Andre Ory led the Comets with a third place finish, crossing the line in 16minutes, 50 seconds. Donnie Miller of West Feliciana won the individualtitle in 16:08. Jeremy Cobb of Teurlings was the runner-up in 16:31. ChrisArcuri of St. Charles Catholic was 22nd in a time of 17:53 while Lutcher’sGaines was 34th in 18:23.
For the girls, Lutcher finished with 163 points. Parkview Baptist easilywon its third straight Class 3A title with 30 points. E. D. White wassecond with 75. Belle Chasse was third with 107 points, followed byAcademy of the Sacred Heart (New Orleans) with 131. Lake Charles-Boston (188), Iowa (211), West Feliciana (211), Winnfield(261) and West St. Mary (262) rounded out the top 10. St. Charles Catholicwas 15th with 379 points.
Lutcher was led by a sixth-place finish by Ciji LeBlanc who came in in12:23. The finish earned all-state honors for LeBlanc. Jackie John of Iowawas the individual winner in 11:44. Parkview Baptist’s Danielle Johnsonwas second in 12:14. Megan Kliebert of E.D. White was third in 12:17,followed by Parkview’s Kate Ripple and Jennifer Davis, both of whomfinished in 12:20.
Lutcher’s Rondeanada Williams was 30th in 13:40. Teammate KrystalDavis was not far behind, finishing 33rd in 13:43. Jennifer Davis of theLady Bulldogs was 39th in 14:04. Jennifer Kliebert came in 68th in 15:09and Lindsey Louque was 90th in 15:57.
“It was almost exactly how we expected it to go,” Lutcher head coachJanie Ryland said. “This was the most consistent group of kids I’ve hadand that consistency is what showed up at the end of the year.”In Class 5A, the East St. John boys were 32nd with 1,042 points while thegirls were 26th with 820. Ruston broke Brother Martin’s two-year run asthe boys’ state champions with 55 points. Rummel was second with 92,followed by Catholic of Baton Rouge with 107. Daniel Sayko of WestMonroe won the individual title in 15:55.
Mount Carmel won its fourth straight girls title with 45 points. St.Joseph’s was second with 75 points, followed by Baton Rouge High with158. Mandeville’s Anne-Katharine Wales came in first in the individualcompetition in 11:40. Dominican’s Cassie Hanan was second in 11:41.
