DEAR EDITOR: On Sept. 29, in the St. James versus Booker T. Washington football game, the Wildcats were geared up and ready to play their hearts out, especiallyme, a senior running back. All I wanted to do was to shine and that I did. Inthe beginning of the first half, I had six carries for 113 yards and scored twotouchdowns. On one of my carries, I was tackled, leaving my foot turned thewrong way. On that tackle, I broke my fibula, and all the ligaments in my anklewere torn. This tackle left a lasting impression on me, and my football careerended for the season.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, I underwent surgery at Thibodaux Regional MedicalCenter in Thibodaux. As of today, I am making a full recovery.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the St. James High Schoolfaculty, staff and students, especially head coach Rick Gaille, and thecoaching staff for all their support. Also, to the Wildcat fans, ThibodauxRegional Medical Center, Dr. Richard Morvant Jr., St. James Parish Sheriff’sOffice, Sheriff Willy Martin Jr., Greater New Orleans Football Association,Acadian Ambulance, Booker T. Washington football team and coaching staff, the Times-Picayune, the Morning Advocate, River Parish News, the News-Examiner, the Enterprise, the Daily Comet and L’Observateur.

I also would like to offer a special word of thanks to my parents, DetectiveNora Steib and Nelson Steib Jr., and Rita Steib, and sister Deputy KirstinSteib Davis of the Lafourche Sheriff’s Office. Thanks for the telephone calls, flowers, cards, publication and especially the prayers. Thank you!
