Hahnville falls to third-ranked Dominican

KENNER – Dominican left little doubt to why it is the third-ranked team in the state in Division I, taking a 15-1, 15-3 victory over Hahnville Wednesday night in the bi-district playoffs in the Pontchartrain Center.
Dominican, which improved to on the season, advanced to play East Jefferson in the regionals Thursday. Dominican defeated East Jefferson, 15-4, 15-1,and played Grace King in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon.
Hahnville, the District 9-I champions, finished the season at 22-11. The LadyTigers were making their sixth straight appearance in the state tournament.
Hahnville hung with Dominican early, breaking three consecutive serves before Dominican got on the scoreboard. The Lady Tigers tied the game aserve later on a kill by Jennifer Hicks. A net violation against the Lady Tigersgave Dominican a 2-1 lead two serves later.
After a dink by Latoya Jones, a service error on Hahnville regain the serve for Dominican. Dominican then went on a 13-0 run with Amanda Boeverserving to close out the game. Two errors against Hahnville and a block byJessica Helgeson started the run and made it 6-1. Following a Hahnvilletimeout, Boever served an ace and Helgeson delivered a kill and a block to make it 9-1.
Hahnville used another timeout but Dominican came right back with a kill by Victoria Gallo and a block by Helgeson to make it 12-1. After a cross-courtkill by Victoria Burke, Elizabeth Landry blocked a shot but Helgeson came back with a block of her own on a tip by Landry to make it 14-1. An error onHahnville gave Dominican the game winner.
Hahnville went ahead 2-0 in the second game on two Dominican errors. ButDominican came back to tie it at 2 on its next serve on a dink by Lauren Perry and an ace by Gallo. After Casie Anderson blocked a shot to regain theserve for Dominican, Boever delivered a kill and Kristen Karas served an ace for a 5-2 lead. It would be 9-2 after a kill by Burke was dug low.An error on Dominican with Landry serving brought Hahnville to within 10-3.
But Anderson and Gallo combined on a block to extend the lead to nine.
Dominican scored three more on Hahnville errors to take the match.
Helgeson led Dominican with eight kills and five blocks. Julie Maratia had fivedigs and Boever three aces. Landry and Hicks had three kills apiece forHahnville. Lindsey Yochim added five assists and four digs.
