LULING – The “Porker Pucker” raised several hundred dollars for United Way of St. Charles as employees of St. Charles Parish Hospital voted three oftheir own recently to kiss a pig.

Actually, it was a cute, little, 4-week-old pot-bellied pig belonging to Sonya Smith of the hospital business office.

A brainchild of Marketing Director Jerry Desselle, the project was part of the plan to pucker up to a piglet and produce part of the $22,500 goal set by the hospital.

Jackie Boudreaux, director of business services, came in third place with $223 raised, at a dollar per vote. She enthusiastically smooched little “EllieMae” to rousing cheers of the gathered employees.

Next up was second-place winner, Nicole Christen of the X-ray department.

Less than enthusiastic, she nevertheless planted a buss on the porker’s cheek and raised $226 for the cause.

Finally, the winner was Assistant Director Karen Bergeron, a personal favorite among the staff, who reluctantly kissed the squealing piglet and raised $246 for United Way.

The event capped a month of special activities, including a barbecue, a “Get Your Legs Up” photo contest, in which employees were asked to identify men’s bare legs. Desselle said no one got any guesses right. Finally, a cookies-and-cream ice cream social raised more funds for United Way. “We just wanted to have fun with it, and make it entertaining,” Dessellesaid.
