Riverside, Lutcher at home; SCC on the road

LAPLACE – Riverside and Lutcher close out the regular season against district opponents at home Friday night, while St. Charles Catholic travels toThibodaux to face District 9-3A rival E.D. White.Riverside can wrap up the District 9-2A title outright with a victory over Fisher. Riverside comes into the game with a 9-0 record overall and 5-0 indistrict, while Fisher is 1-8 overall and 0-5 in district.

Fisher has had problems getting into the end zone this season. The team’squarterback is Ryan Bundy. Scott Blanda and Glen Maise will take thehandoffs. Going downfield are receiver Bobby Mayfield and tight end DaleMartin. There are four seniors on the offensive line.The front seven on defense are led by Edward Proctor at end and Gerard Victoriano and Chad Sanchez at linebacker. In the secondary are seniorBobby Mayfield and junior Brian Cook.

Riverside rolled up 504 yards in offense in defeating Fisher, 35-7, in 1999.

Lutcher, which clinched its second straight District 9-3A title last Friday, looks to gain momentum heading into the postseason when it closes out the regular season Friday against Donaldsonville. The Bulldogs are 6-3 overall and3-0 in district, while Donaldsonville is 4-5 overall and 1-2 in district.

Donaldsonville is led by quarterback Terrance Brown, who is joined in the backfield by Antonio Johnson, Dio Bernard and Mike Lymon. Edmond Joseph,the split end, is the top receiver. The Tigers are inexperienced on both sidesof the line where only one starter, guard Jarrod Brown, returns.

Lutcher clinched the District 9-3A title outright last year with a 31-13 victory over the Tigers in Donaldsonville.

St. Charles Catholic closes out the season against old foe E.D. White. TheComets are 3-6 overall and 1-2 in district, while E.D. White is 5-4 overall and1-2 in district. This will be the fourth River Parishes opponent for theCardinals this season.

Evan Matherne leads the E.D. White offense from behind center. In thebackfield are Jonathan Becnel, one of the leading rushers in Class 3A, John Hymel and Christian Stanga. The main threat of late has been receiver/kickreturner Matt Matis. The line is a strength, led by Marc Montet at tackle andChris Rodrigue at center.

On defense, E.D. White is led by ends Shaffer Robichaux and Marc Talbot,tackles Stephen Raynal, Michael Bouterie and Ryan Gravois and linebackers Luke Savoie and Josh Perque. Justin Verrett, David Stock, Derek Hebert andLaird Ellender are in the secondary.

The kicking game continues to be a strength with Verrett at kicker and James Wilcox at punter.

A year ago, E.D. White ended the Comets’ season with a 30-7 victory inLaPlace.
