Destrehan Plantation Fall Fest coming up

DESTREHAN – The 29th annual Destrehan Plantation Fall Festival is set for Nov. 11 and 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the festival is $5 foradults, $1 for children, 6-17, and free for children under 6.

Over 175 artists and craft vendors from throughout Louisiana and a nine- state area will be on hand to sell hand-crafted items. A variety of woodcrafts, pottery, jewelry, clothing, dolls and other items will be available throughout the weekend.

Near the antique barn, historical re-enactments and candle making, indigo dyeing and other crafts will be demonstrated.

The 1830’s Mule Barn will be converted to a wonderful antique mall, filled with a fine selection of antiques and collectibles. Additional vendors will bealong the front outside of the barn.

There will also be a Cajun and Creole food tent with an assortment of foods including seafood, jambalaya, gumbo, red beans and rice, etouffee, onion mums, barbecue, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries and assorted desserts.

The wine cafe, located near the food area, is a great place to relax while taking a break from shopping.

The entertainment stage, located near the food area, will feature local bands and dance groups. There will also be continuous entertainment offeredthroughout the festival grounds.

The plantation house can be viewed from the outside gallery, with costumed tour guides stationed throughout the house. Guided tours through theinterior of the plantation house will be available for an additional fee.

The Destrehan Plantation Store, scheduled to open at the end of October, will have a wonderful selection of unique and reasonably priced items for any special occasion.

Other festival activities include a silent auction booth, raffles, door prizes, pony rides and a children’s area with an assortment of games to amuse children.

The festival is the main source of funding of the River Road Historical Society whose mission is the preservation and interpretation of Destrehan Plantation and other historical sites along the River Road in Louisiana for present and future generations. All proceeds from admission fees go toDestrehan Plantation site development.
