WSJ’s Herbert scores five TDs to lead Rams

FISHER – West St. John had quite a road trip to Fisher Friday night.Devin Herbert found the road to the end zone a bit easier.

Herbert hit paydirt five times as the Rams clinched second place in District 9-2A with a 44-7 victory at Fisher.

West St. John improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in district play. Fisher fell to1-8 overall and 0-5 in district.

Herbert finished the game with 118 yards on 15 carries. The Rams rolled up286 yards in offense, 229 yards coming on the ground. Randall Nicholsoncompleted 4-of-13 passes for 57 yards.

West St. John held Fisher to 80 yards in offense and four first downs. TheGators passed for just three yards and committed two turnovers. WillieNorel got 70 of the yards on one carry in the fourth quarter and finished with 77 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Herbert opened the scoring with a 36-yard run in the first quarter. He lateradded an 18-yard run to give the Rams a 12-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Herbert did not slow down in the second quarter. He scored on a 2-yard runwith Nicholson adding the two-point conversion on a run. Herbert then went25 yards for the score and Derron Thomas ran in for the conversion, making it 28-0 at halftime.

Herbert scored his fifth touchdown in the third quarter on a 1-yard run.

Nicholson passed to Haven Gaudet for the conversion, building the lead to 36- 0 at the end of the third quarter.

Jamarr Coleman got the Rams’ final touchdown on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter. Thomas added the conversion to make it 44-0.Norel scored on a 70-yard run for the Gators in the fourth. Murphy Walteradded the point after.

West St. John is off next week before starting the Class 2A playoffs Nov.10.

Christian Life 30, St. Charles Catholic 22

BATON ROUGE – Third-ranked Christian Life got a measure on St. CharlesCatholic with a 30-22 victory Friday night.

Christian Life, which lost to the Comets last season, improved to 8-1 on the season.

The Comets (3-6) travel to E.D. White Friday.
