ROMEVILLE – All St. James Parish schools improved their SchoolAccountability Results since last year. The results, presented to theschool board Tuesday, showed a strong increase in some schools which may lead to the label of Academically Above Average if they continue to improve for the testing in March.

Gramercy Elementary School, currently labeled Academically Below Average, actually has a school performance score which would place it in the above average category. The labels are changed only once every twoyears though, and the state is in the middle of the two-year span. IfGramercy Elementary continues to maintain the higher score, then it will receive the above average label next year.

Schools currently above average are Paulina Elementary, Vacherie Elementary and Vacherie Primary schools.

The school performance scores are based on Leap 21 and IOWA test scores, attendance and dropout rates.

In spite of the below average labels the schools have had gain and that’s what is important, said Willis Octave, district five board member.

Superintendent Edward Cancienne addressed the group at the school board meeting at Romeville Elementary and reassured members there was improvement everywhere. He said though it may take a little time atRomeville Elementary, great things would happen.
