Zeringue gets Chancellor’s Award

NEW ORLEANS – Rene P. Zeringue III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rene P. Zeringue ofVacherie, was recently awarded the Chancellor’s Award from the Louisiana State University School of Allied Health.
The award is presented to the one student who in the opinion of the School of Allied Heath Professions’ faculty represents excellence in academic performance and research and has done the most to promote the health professions and the school before the public.
Zeringue is a May 2000 graduate from the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling. Upon graduation he began working as a rehabilitation counselor inthe Mental Health Services Partial Hospitalization program at the Medical Center of Louisiana.
During his two years at LSUHSC, Zeringue demonstrated academic excellence and a true desire to learn. As a scholar he exhibited the many diverse skillsneeded to be a successful, well-rounded professional. His work went wellbeyond the minimum expectations for graduation in every area.
Zeringue sought out and often created opportunities to participate in professional presentations. These presentations always had the focus ofenhancing the lives of clients he served or educating others about the role of rehabilitation counselors. He also volunteered for many department-sponsored activities, such as a new student orientation, Site Appreciation Night and a community disability awareness fair.
In addition to Zeringue’s scholarly skills and his commitment to service, he has also demonstrated outstanding clinical skills both on-site and within the departmental counseling clinic. One site supervisor indicated her staffrepeatedly commented on his compassion for others and willingness to go the extra mile for his clients and for the site. Zeringue’s commitment to hisclients and to his profession as well as his keen leadership ability epitomize a true rehabilitation counseling professional.
