Tigers enjoy convincing Homecoming win

HAHNVILLE – The Hahnville Tigers successfully defended their field for Homecoming, beating the South Terrebonne Gators, 43-0.

Hahnville improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in District 7-5A. South Terrebonnefell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in district.

The two teams traded the ball for the first few drives until Hahnville finally scored from the 3-yard line as quarterback Dawan Landry slipped into the end zone.

Mark Young held the ball for a fake extra-point kick and dashed of to the right corner for the two-point conversion. The first touchdown put 8-0 onthe board with four minutes left in the quarter.

The Tigers scored on their next drive, this time with a 30-yard run by Skyler Boyle, who broke a tackle at the scrimmage line and tore down the left side of the field.

Boyle crossed the goal line dragging tacklers behind him. Kicker MattCummins made the extra point, score 15-0.

Two minutes into the second quarter, the Tigers’ Robert Bate blocked a punt to start the drive on the Gators 47-yard line. Hahnville took advantage of thedistance with a 26-yard run for the touchdown.

Landry started the run, pitching the ball back to Charles Taylor just before getting plowed over. Taylor brought it down the left side for the score.Cummins continued his accurate kicking and the score increased to 22-0 with seven minutes left in the half.

The rest of the second quarter was a mess of interceptions. Terrebonne’sJeremy Van Buren pulled Landry’s pass out of the air.

The Tigers defense returned the favor, Bate tipping a pass to Jason Naquin in the last minute. Van Buren steps up again to intercept the next pass,aimed for Lionel Evans.

Hahnville’s Laron Landry grabed the last one, with nine seconds left to end the half.

The last half continued on with Hahnville dominating over Terrebonne. Evanspulls in a 27-yard pass for a touchdown, Cummins again adding his point to make it 29-0.

Brandon Hills blocked a 35-yard field goal attempt by the Gators. Boyle thenwent on a 37-yard run to the 15 yard-line. Boyle ran the same play again,bringing it in the rest of the way, with Tim Sirmon making the extra point.

The third quarter ended shortly after with 36-0 lead for Hahnville.

The last score almost was stopped within the last few yards of the end zone.

Brooke Dufrene took it up the middle until a fourth-down pitch and a dash to the right brought him over the goal line.

Hahnville hosts South Lafourche next week in District 7-5A play.
