Riverside opens district play in style

BURAS – Riverside converted four mistakes in the Buras kicking game into 25 points on its way to a 56-13 victory Friday night.
Riverside improved to 1-0 in District 9-2A and 4-0 overall. Buras fell to 0-1in district and 1-3 overall.
Riverside finished with 347 total yards, 233 coming on the ground. BrittWaguespack led the way with 102 yards on nine carries. Brandon Delaneuvilleadded 48 yards on 10 attempts. Damian Melancon completed 4-of-5 passesfor 90 yards. All four of those passes were to Gus Entremont for 90 yards.Buras had 235 yards in offense. The Wildcats ran for 167 yards and passedfor another 68 yards. Scott Riley carried the ball 35 times for 118 yards.Henry Lynn completed 5-of-8 passes fro 99 yards. Michael Lacombe caughtthree of them for 76 yards.
Riverside opened the scoring in the first quarter, going 62 yards in six plays.
Delaneuville capped it off with a 6-yard run. Blake Torres added the extrapoint for a 7-0 lead.
The Rebels added another score in the quarter, going 68 yards in four plays.
This time it was Waguespack scoring from four yards out. Torres againadded the extra point, making it 14-0.
Buras came back with a 13-play, 78-yard drive. Lynn found Lacombe from 17yards out for the score. Lacombe added the point after, cutting the deficitto 14-7.
Then the Wildcats’ kicking woes continued. The snap went over the punter’shead on a punt attempt, resulting in a safety for a 16-6 Riverside lead. TheRebels fumbled the ensuing free kick but again the Wildcats were forced to punt and again the snap was errant.
Riverside took over at the Buras 39-yard line and Delaneuville scored four plays later from 13 yards out. The kick failed, leaving the score 22-6.John Champagne recovered a fumble by Lynn at the Buras 30-yard line on the next possession. Six plays later, Waguespack scored from the one. The extrapoint again failed, leaving the score 28-6. Ray Cella recovered a fumble byLynn at the end of the half.
Another bad snap on a punt attempt at the beginning of the thrid quarter gave Riverside possession at the Buras 20. After a clipping call, Melanconfound Entremont from 30 yards out for the score. Torres’ kick was good,making it 35-6.
Sean Delaneuville blocked Buras’ next punt attempt and Ryan Bugay recovered for the Rebels at the 27-yard line. Three plays later, Waguespackscored on a 7-yard run. Torres again added the extra point for a 42-6 lead.It would be 49-6 by the end of the quarter as Jared St. Amant scored on a37-yard run. The kick was good by Torres.Neil Richard closed oyt the scoring for the Rebels in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run. The Wildcats scored on the last play of the game as Lynn threw a40-yard touchdown pass to Lacombe. The point after attempt was blocked.Riverside hosts Redeemer-Seton next Friday in District 7-5A play.
