DEAR EDITOR: The Democrats are trying to take all the credit for safeguarding the environment. It is well known that the Republicans initiated some of thestrongest legislation to date to protect our environment but the press does not seem inclined to bring this to the forefront.

Gov. George W. Bush said, “Prosperity will mean little if we leave to futuregenerations a world of polluted air, toxic lakes and rivers, and vanished fields and forests. Most Americans share this conviction. The debate today is overhow best to apply it. The old system of mandate, regulate and litigate onlysends potential developers off in search of greener pastures – literally.

Brownfields get passed over while Greenfields get paved over. Washington’scommand-and-control mindset is an obstacle to reform. The solution is notto eliminate the federal role in protecting the environment, the solution is reform. Reform that sets high standards and gets results.”George W. Bush does care about the environment. It is a priority to him, as iseducation, Social Security, health care and fiscal responsibility. He hasdemonstrated that he can set goals and turn things around for the greater good. He can be assured of my vote in the presidential election.
