The St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Department will hostan NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition at Landry Middle School in Hahnville, today from 9 a.m. to noon. Girls and boys will be divided into the following age divisions: 8-9-year- olds, 10-11-year-olds, 12-13-year-olds and 14-15-year-olds.
Boys and girls will compete separately in local competitions with the top finishers in each of the four age groups advancing to a sectional competition.

The St. John Parish Recreation Department is sponsoring anNFL/Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick competition tomorrow at the Glade School.
The competition is free to boys and girls ages 8-15. Registration starts at1 p.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Competition starts at 3 p.m. All participantsmust show birth certificate to verify age.

The St. James Recreation Department is holding an NFL/GatoradePunt, Pass and Kick competition Wednesday at 7th District Park from 5-7 p.m.The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 8-15.
The top finishers from each of the four age group from the boys and girls divisions will advance to the regional during a New Orleans Saints home game.

The fifth annual Hahnville Dugout Club golf classic will be held today at Willowdale Country Club. All proceeds will be used to financescholarships for members of both the boys’ baseball and girls’ softball teams, jackets for graduating seniors and the annual banquet for the coaches, players and parents at the end of the season.
The cost to enter is $65 per player and $260 per team. Hole sponsorshipsare also available. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and thirdplace, closest to the hole and longest drive.

Racing Unlimited is hosting Du-LaPlace 2000 Sept. 24 at Regala Park inReserve at 8 a.m.Du-LaPlace is a two-mile run, 10-mile bike, two-mile run event. The entryfee is $20 through Monday, $25 thereafter. All entrants receive a T-shirt.Entry fees are non-refundable.

The race will benefit the St. John Crimefighters, a community servicegroup operated by the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and local volunteers have scheduled a hunter education course in the area today and tomorrow.
The course begins at the Gramercy Fire Station. It will be held there from8 a.m. till 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. till 4 p.m. Sunday. Participantsthen go to Nick’s Shooting Range from 4 p.m. till the comnpletion of theshooting portion of the program.
The courses are free to the public and anyone 10 years old and older can be certified. The course must be completed for those born on or after Sept. 1,1969 before a hunting license can be purchased at age 16. All classesmust be attended and tardiness is grounds for dismissal.

The United Way of St. Charles will hold its 11th annual golftournament Oct. 6 at Willowdale Country Club in Luling. The format is afour-man scramble (blind draw handicaps) and is open to all for $75 per player.
There will be prizes for the first hole-in-one, longest drive and closest to the hole. The tournament will be split into morning and afternoon rounds.Included in the price are cart and green fees, lunch, team photograph and door prizes. Companies in the community are invited to become Olympicchampions by sponsoring at the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal level.

Blue and gold sponsorships are available at a cost of $100 forblue or $250 for gold. Corporate sponsorships are also available. Prizes will be given for first through third place finishers, closest to the hole and longest drive in the fairway. Door prizes will also be drawnduring award ceremonies.

The St. Charles Humane Society is sponsoring its annual Howl-in-Onegolf tournament Monday, Oct. 30, at Ormond Country Club in Destrehan. Teetime is scheduled for noon.
The cost to enter is $60 per player. The fee will go toward purchasing staband ballistic vests for St. Charles Parish K-9 police dogs and humanecommunity programs. Sponsorships are also available at the followinglevels: Platinum ($1,000), Gold ($500), hole sponsors ($100) and team sponsors ($120). There will also be prizes for the tournament and a silentauction.
The format for the event is a two-person scramble with men and ladies divisions. Prizes will be awarded in each division. A grand prize of$10,000 will be awarded for a hole-in-one.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.
The Golf Sampler Card is $39 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 49 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of thegold card will also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golf towel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12 in-school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievementand its 900 volunteers will teach more than 25,000 local students in over 140 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.
The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.
Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
