LULING – The old Killona Elementary School, located at the end of Schoolhouse Road in view of the Waterford 3 complex, has been vacant since the mid- 1980s. The Rev. Eldridge Moor of Christian Harvest Time Baptist Church inHahnville wants to change that.

Moor’s plan is to establish a 24-hour adult learning and substance-abuse center.

There’s a kink in the plan, however, as the school itself rests on land which reverts to the original owners if the property is used other than by the school board.

Originally a part of Waterford Plantation, the Killona school site dilemma will be reviewed by school system attorneys before a final decision is made.

The matter was tabled at Wednesday’s meeting of the St. Charles School Board. In another matter, Superintendent Dr. Rodney Lafon reported the currentpublic school enrollment at 9,643 students.
