Lennix, Stemley commit to Lady Wave, SUNO

RESERVE – The East St. John Lady Cats basketball team’s tradition ofsending players to the next level continued recently as Kinya Lennix committed to Tulane and Danielle Stemley to Southern University of New Orleans.

Lennix, a senior small forward, became the Lady Cats’ all-time leading scorer last year, surpassing Keeshawn Carter’s career mark of 1,475 points. Lennix has 1,641 points heading into the 2000- 2001 season. As a junior, she earned all-District 7-5A, all-River Parishes and honorable mention all-state honors after averaging 16.7 points and 6.2rebounds a game. Lennix also had 64 assists and 74 steals.Stemley, a senior point guard, was an all-district selection in 1999-2000.

She averaged seven points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Stemley also had 122 assists, 108 steals and hit 30 percent of her shots from 3-point range.

Lennix and Stemley have played on three straight district championship teams.

The two helped the Lady Cats set a school record last season with 30 victories and advance to the Class 5A regionals for a fourth straight year.
