Norco senior center celebrates 10th anniversary

NORCO – The Norco Senior Citizens Activity Center, operated by the St.
Charles Parish Council on Aging, commemorated its 10th anniversary Sept. 5with officials looking forward to continued growth.
COA director Margaret Powe recalled that a 1988 millage to provide dedicated funding for the program enabled the COA to expand beyond its two centers in Luling and New Sarpy.
“That was a campaign promise,” Powe said. The COA now also operatesactivity centers in Des Allemands, Paradis, Hahnville and Norco.
Forty Norco seniors attended the festivities, joined by Parish President Albert Laque’s representative, Steve Sirmon, along with the Rev. John Marseof Sacred Heart Church, the Rev. Joe Molchanoff of First Baptist Church ofNorco and COA board member Jim Pierce.
Activity manager Monica Ingram, who hosts the activities in the ground floor of the old Norco School, has plans to brighten up the facility with new window treatments, new doors and a coat of paint. The rest of the old Norco School,which dates back to the 1930s, houses St. Charles Parish Adult Education.”This center is growing,” said Powe. “It’s a convenient location, too. Manylive in walking distance.”
