Local man jailed after shooting

RESERVE – A LaPlace man was jailed this week, charged with shooting aReserve woman early Tuesday morning.
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies got acall from a woman at 216 E. 13th St. in Reserve. When officers arrived theyfound Wanda Joseph sitting on a sofa with a wound to her left side.
According to Joseph, she had been sitting in her car earlier that eveningwhen Roosevelt Preston Jr., 23, 987 Whitlow Court, LaPlace, approached thecar and demanded to know why she was sitting in the car.
Joseph said that Preston then proceeded to beat her with his fists. He pulledout a pistol and fired once, breaking the car window and hitting Joseph in theleft side.
Joseph was taken to the hospital, and it was determined that the bullet onlygrazed the left side of her body.
Preston later turned himself in and was jailed at the Sherman R. WalkerCorrectional Facility in LaPlace.
