Field goal leads SCC past Irish

LAPLACE – Jason Waguespack’s 34-yard field with eight minutes left gaveSt. Charles Catholic a 16-13 victory over Grace King Friday night atThomas Dupuy Stadium.

St. Charles Catholic improved to 1-1 on the season. Grace King, playing asan independent for the second straight season, fell to 0-2. It was thesecond straight victory for the Comets over the Irish.

Waguespack completed 12 of his 23 passes for 115 yards and two scores.

Doug Friloux led the rushing attack with 64 yards. The Comets finishedwith 124 yards on 21 carries and 239 yards in total offense.

Grace King had 213 yards in offense. The Irish ran for 168 yards andpassed for another 45.

St. Charles Catholic scored on its first drive as Waguespack found RandyMadere for a 20-yard score. After Grace King answered, Waguespack threwa 10-yard touchdown pass to Philip Hoffman. Grace King came back to tiethe game at 13 before Waguespack nailed the 34-yard field goal for thewinning margin.

St. Charles Catholic holds its Homecoming next Friday against Lawless.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
