DEAR EDITOR: Some of the bravest men and women in the state of Louisiana need a place to be recognized for performing a job that requires the heart of a soldier.
These brave men and women have risked their lives to make the state of Louisiana a safer place for all men, women and children. We call these menand women law enforcement officers.
Building a Louisiana Law Enforcement Memorial Center and Museum has been Wayne Norwood’s dream since early in his law enforcement career. Hehas worked extremely hard to make this dream come true. The paperworkfor this project, started in 1998, is now complete. This includes the non-profit status, 501-[c] [3], for the Internal Revenue Service. With the helpand blessings of Sheriff Ed Layrisson, the memorial center is set to be built in Tangipahoa Parish. This center/museum will represent Louisianalaw enforcement.
In one area of the center, there will be a memorial wall that will list the name, rank and department of all officers killed in the line of duty. Inanother area of the center, there will be photos of the officers, along with the circumstances that led to their deaths. Additionally, there will be anarea for the fmilies of other deceased officers. This area will allow thefamilies to place a photo and to give a brief history of the officer’s service for a small fee. Or, if the visitors just want to take theinformational approach, they can visit the museum that will feature all types of police equipment.
Although there is a proposed building design, there are interior plans to be drawn, land to be purchased, and a building to be constructed. Each passingday brings this goal much closer. In order to make tomorrow’s goal intotoday’s reality, help is needed through tax-deductible donations. Withoutyour donation, this is a dream with just a hint of focus. Help change thisdream into a reality. I will be available upon request to speak to yourdepartment or organization.
“Dear God, protect these brave men and women; grant them almighty protection. Unite them safely with their families after duty ends.”(Policeman’s Prayer) For more information, or to make a donation, please contact the following address: Louisiana Law Enforcement Memorial Center, Lt.
