Laque picks financial chief

HAHNVILLE – Lorrie R. Toups, a seven-year employee of the St. CharlesParish Department of Finance, is nominated to succeed Roland Becnel Jr. asdirector of that department.

Becnel is retiring in October after more than 20 years in the job, along with his wife, Joan, who has served as council secretary during the same period.

Toups’ name was introduced by Parish President Albert Laque, with confirmation set at the next council meeting on Aug. 21.”I guess we’ll wait for congratulations until then,” council chairman Terry Authement commented.

Toups, a resident of Luling, graduated cum laude in May 1991 from Nicholls State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Her past employment includes internal auditing at Bank of St. Charles,federal and corporate tax return preparation for Freeport McMoran and, since March 1993, financial and budgetary accounting for the parish finance department with Becnel.

She is a licensed certified public accountant.
