The ceremony celebrated the opening of a new administration office, a 3,000-square-foot warehouse and an employee change house. Thesedevelopments signal continued expansion for the terminal which opened in 1997. St. James Parish President Dale Hymel Jr. officiated at the dedicationceremony.
“Our strategic location in St. James Parish, existing loading and unloadingcapabilities and experienced work force give ICRMT outstanding advantages for business growth,” said Bruce Conti, president of IMCRMT. “These latestfacility additions will allow us to continue to grow and serve an expanding customer base while enhancing the work environment for our employees.
Coincidentally, our new gantry crane, a 1500-ton per hour crane, manufactured by IMPSA of Argentina, is undergoing commissioning and is projected to be operating by late August.”The facility will then have two dockside cranes for servicing various types and sizes of product movements.
ICRMT employs approximately 42 people and serves bulk intermodal customers through rail, highway and deepwater port transportation access.
Conti noted that the facility can now fulfill its potential as envisioned in 1995 by E. Hunter Harrison, then president of Illinois Central Railroad and nowexecutive vice-president and chief operating officer of Canadian National Railway.
