Luling man held in shooting

LULING – A Luling man turned himself in to authorities Monday night after a warrant was issued for three counts of attempted murder against the man.

Carliss Chapman, 29, of 1229 Paul Fredrick St., turned himself in afterallegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend and her male companion Sunday morning at Holmes Food Mart No. 5 at 1364 Paul Maillard Road.Capt. Patrick Yoes of the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office said the victims pulledinto the convenience store’s parking lot at 10:55 a.m. and were found thereby Chapman, who pulled a revolver and started shooting.

The woman received a gunshot wound to her right arm, causing a severe wound, and chased the male companion in the parking lot, shooting wildly. Astray shot struck another man in the right leg as he sat in his vehicle.

Chapman then fled the scene and returned to a Boutte motel where he stayed until turning himself in at the parish courthouse in Hahnville Monday at 6 p.m.Yoes saidChapman was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, but he could not provide details of Chapman’s criminal record.
