DHS’s Roth commits to LSU

DESTREHAN – Destrehan’s Randy Roth continued a dream season this past week, committing to the LSU baseball team.
Roth, a senior-to-be at Destrehan, was named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A all-State team this past season. He was alsoan all-District 7-5A first team selection after batting .500 with 10 homeruns, 11 doubles, 39 RBIs and 35 runs scored.
Roth played shortstop and pitched for the Wildcats but is projected as a third baseman at LSU.
“He’s a great kid,” Destrehan head baseball coach Mark Willoughby said. “Hehas a great work ethic and is a team leader. He is definitely the kind of kidyou want to reflect your program.”Roth said he was looking at Tulane and Southern Mississippi before attending a camp at LSU last week. Roth talked to Tigers assistant coach TurtleThomas and was offered a scholarship.
“It’s mostly everybody’s dream to be able to play for LSU,” Roth said. “It’sthe opportunity of a lifetime to play for the number one school in the country.”Two former St. Charles Parish high school standouts are currently playingfor LSU, Hahnville’s Weylin Guidry and Destrehan’s Tommy Morel.
