St. Charles stays alive in Top 10

LULING – St. Charles Parish District 3 East stayed alive in the Dixie BoysSuper 10 State Tournament of Champions with a victory over Alexandria Monday evening at the West Bank Bridge Park.
St. Charles advanced to play West Monroe, which lost to Bossier City inthe winner’s bracket, in an elimination game. The winner of that game willplay the winner of Bossier City and Mamou in the championship game tonight at 7 p.m.St. Charles East opened the tournament Saturday with a 5-3 victory overthe host team from St. Charles. Trey Watkins, Matt McCune and DamarisJohnson each had a hit and a run for St. Charles East. St. Charles-Host was led by Brent Champagne who went 1-for-3 with ahome run. Seppe Crovetto and Lyndon Eusea also had hits and runs for thehost team.
St. Charles East went on to lose to Bossier City, 13-7, Sunday in awinners’ bracket game. Brian Young led St. Charles with two hits. BronsonGillam went 3-for-3 for Bossier City and tied a state tournament record with two doubles. Bossier City was coming off a 20-5 victory over Mamoubehind a state tournament record tying two home runs by David Carter.
Earlier Saturday, St. Charles Host was eliminated by Mamou, 13-2. Euseahad two hits for St. Charles while Jody Landeche, Zach Matus and Crovettohad one apiece. Three players had two hits apiece for Mamou.After the first two days of the tournament, West Monroe’s Andrew Ray and Jordan Pleasant each had five hits and five runs. Also scoring five runswere Bossier City’s Carter, Gordon Mosley and Khiry Cooper. BesidesCarter and Champagne, Gonzales’ Bradly Day and Morgan City’s Jacob LaJaunie had hit home runs.
In other first round action Saturday, Morgan City defeated Gonzales, 17-4 and West Monroe defeated Alexandria, 11-6. In Sunday’s action, WestMonroe defeated Morgan City, 17-4, despite two doubles by Morgan City’s Bradley Matte. Alexandria eliminated Gonzales, 14-5, in the losers’bracket. Monday, Mamou eliminated Morgan City, 10-6.
