LUTCHER – Without a mention from the St. James Parish School Board,Walter J. Landry, former interim superintendent, has returned to hisposition as supervisor of child welfare and attendance.
Landry, who had been on sabbatical for the last year, still has a racial discrimination suit pending against the school board. The discriminationsuit was filed after the board refused to renew his one-year contract as superintendent. The board had voted him in as interim superintendent 4-3in 1998 and voted 5-2 not to renew his contract a year later. The swingaway from support for Landry came with the votes of new west bank board members Kathleen Becnel and Charles Nailor.
During the meeting Wednesday the school board approved the revised Pupil Progression Plan, Student Policy Manual and the parishwide progress reports, testing and report card schedule after a presentation of any revisiments by acting administrative director Janie Vee Henderson.
Also reviewed and accepted were the lowest bids offered on food, non- food supplies, small equipment, garbage service, janitorial supplies and bus parts.
