Five locals Baton Rouge bound

BATON ROUGE – The River Parishes will again be well represented at this year’s Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s All-Star football game.

Five players, three on the East squad and two on the West, have been selected to play in the game Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.at LSU’s Tiger Stadium.

Selected to the East squad were Lutcher defensive lineman Jemelle Cage, Destrehan offensive lineman Jeremy Parquet and Riverside offensive lineman Joseph Trosclair. Named to the West squad were West St. Johnquarterback Carl Gauthier and St. James quarterback Corey Webster.Trosclair was an all-District 9-2A, all-Metro and all-state selection in 1999. He helped the Rebels rush for over 2,000 yards during the season.Trosclair has signed to play for Nicholls State.

Cage was the District 9-3A Defensive MVP in 1999 and was also selected all-Metro and all-State. He had 94 tackles, 72 unassisted, along with 11sacks and 17 tackles behind the line. He signed with Louisiana Tech inFebruary.

Parquet was another all-District 7-5A, all-Metro and all-State selection this past season. He helped the Wildcats claim a fourth straight districttitle, helping the team run for over 3,000 yards and pass for another 1,200 yards. He is signed with Southern Mississippi.Gauthier guided West St. John to a third straight appearance in thesemifinals. He was named the Offensive MVP of both District 9-2A and theRiver Parishes. Gauthier was also an all-Metro and all-State selection. Inhis senior year, he completed over 60 percent of his passes for 2,848 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also ran for over 400 yards and scored seventimes. He will attend Nicholls State in the fall.Webster was an all-District 9-3A and honorable mention all-State selection in 1999. He passed for over 1,400 yards and 22 touchdowns andadded another 200 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He hassigned to play for LSU.

Each team consists of 35 players. Playing time will be four 12-minutequarters. All players must play at least six minutes during the first halfof the game. If any player does not play the required time in the first half,they they will start the second half and play until the time requirement is fulfilled.
