BATON ROUGE – West St. John’s Antoine Edwards has been named the headcoach for the West squad for Thursday night’s Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s All-Star boys’ basketball game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m., following the girls’ game, at the PeteMaravich Assembly Center on the LSU campus.

Edwards led West St. John to the Class 2A state championship this pastseason, the first in school history.

The Rams defeated Coushatta, 84-71, in the state championship game at the Cajundome in Lafayette. The title was also the first by a RiverParishes school and capped a 27-4 season that included the District 9-2A title.

Edwards is the second West St. John coach in two years to coach an All-Star team. Laury Dupont headed up the West squad at last year’s All-Starfootball game.

Edwards will be joined on the West squad by his point guard, Jeremy Lumar. Lumar was the MVP of the Class 2A state tournament afteraveraging 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals a game, including a 28-point effort in the finals. The senior was an all-District 9-2Aselection after averaging 12.4 points per contest.Each squad consists of 15 players. Playing time is two 20-minute halves.The starting five players play the first five minutes of each half, the second five the next five minutes and the final five the following five minutes. After the first 15 minutes of each half, free substitution may beused for the remainder of the half.

Each team will be allowed three full timeouts and two 20 second timeouts per game.
