Cretin Homes bounces back to win

LAPLACE – Chris Cancienne’s one-out home run to left in the sixth inning lifted Cretin Homes to a 5-4 victory over Allstate Insurance in Second District play Saturday afternoon.

Cretin Homes improved to 7-6 overall and 6-6 in district play after winning for the fifth time in six games. Allstate Insurance fell to 8-7 overall and 8-5in district.

Allstate Insurance had rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game in the top of the sixth on Chris Zerr’s grand slam to left-center. Cancienne answered inthe bottom of the inning, driving a 2-0 pitch by Danny Carrera over the scoreboard in left, giving Cretin Homes a 5-4 lead.

Jason Waguespack retired the side in order in the seventh on six pitches.

Waguespack (2-0) picked up the win, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks. Carrera (3-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and fivewalks while striking out two.

Cretin Homes staked Waguespack to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

With one out, Justin Chauvin walked and advanced to third on Waguespack’s double to left.

After a walk by Toby Jacob loaded the bases, Randy Madere lined a double to right, scoring Chauvin and Waguespack. Madere would come in on AndrewRevall’s ground out to second, giving Cretin Homes a three-run cushion.

Waguespack made the lead stand up, getting Daryl Ricard to ground out to Chris Poche at third with two on and two out in the first and Matt Frantatorch to hit into a double play to end the second.

With Ricard on second on a walk and a wild pitch with two outs in the fourth, Madere made a shoestring catch on Matt Nuccio’s liner to first to end the inning. Madere did it again in the fifth, going into the hole to grab JasonSchwab’s grounder with a runner on and two outs.

Cretin Homes added a run in the bottom half of the fifth. Jason Rauch andWaguespack walked with one out in the inning.

Jacob then kept alive an eight-game hitting streak, lining a single to left to score Rauch for a 4-0 lead. Carrera got Madere to ground into a double playto second to end the frame.

Allstate Insurance then rallied with one out in the top of the sixth.

Tommy Manzella opened the rally with a double to right. Gregg Felger walkedand Ricard singled to left to load the bases. Cretin Homes appeared to getout of the inning unscathed as Nuccio flew out to Matt Arceneaux in short left but Zerr then took a one-strike inside changeup and knocked it over the left-center field wall, tying the game at 4. Waguespack came back to getFrantatorch to ground out to short to end the inning.

“I’m happy,” Cretin Homes coach Paul Waguespack said. “We could haveeasily folded but Chris came up with the big hit. He had been struggling and Iwas glad to see him get the hit. Jeremy (Triche) did a good job behind theplate. Jason had one bad inning but came right back. He got out of the inningand then retired the side in order in the seventh on six pitches. He didn’t letit bother him and he went out and did his job.”
