Alleged getaway driver in robbery, shooting charged

LAPLACE – The St. John Sheriff’s Office has made another arrest in theJune 9 attempted murder of a Texaco cashier.
Kelvin Thomas, 19, 491 Little Emily St., Garyville, has been charged as aprincipal to attempted first-degree murder and principal to armed robbery.
Capt. Mike Tregre of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office said Thomas drovethe get away car in the attempted armed robbery.
Authorities said Thomas waited in the car while Gary Grant of Gramercy entered the Texaco Station on the corner of Airline Highway and Central Avenue with a pistol and demanded money.
Gant and the female cashier got into a physical altercation, and Gant allegedly tried to shoot the cashier in the head. However, the bulletricocheted off her skull. Gant then fled the store without any money, andhe and Thomas took off down Central Avenue toward the river.
Gant was arrested last week andcharged with attempted first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery. Gant is also charged with the May 3armed robbery of the Eight Ball Lounge in Reserve.
Both Thomas and Gant are sitting in the St. John Parish jail under$200,000 bond.
