BERGERON TAKES SECOND AT CANTON – CANTON, Miss. – Brett Bergeronshot a 3-over par 143 to place second overall at the Gulf States Section PGA Junior Golf Tour’s Canton Classic Wednesday.

Neithan Allen of Dry Prong won the tournament with a even-par 144 after shooting a 2-under par 70 in the second round.

Bergeron went 73-74 over the two-day event to tie Kevin Jones of Crystal Springs for second.

Steve Luminais and Brock Waguespack also competed in the event.

WALKER COMPETES IN BANK ONE OPEN – LAKE CHARLES – Jarrett Walker of Luling shot a 4-over par 76 to tie six others for 90th place after the first round of the Bank One Open Thursday.

Greg Sonnier of Lake Charles, Mark Popp of New Iberia and Michael Connell of Richardson, Texas, are tied for the lead with 7-under par 65s at the Tight Lies Tour event.

The Bank One Open is a three-day event with a $70,000 purse.

ALCANTARA WINS AT QUALIFYING – BATON ROUGE – Marcia Alcantara of LaPlace and Abbey Angelle of Maurice teamed to win their second match at the Louisiana State Junior Qualifying Tournament Monday at Highland Road Park.

Alcantara and Angelle defeated Mary Harrison of Shreveport and Stephanie Phillips of Baton Rouge, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round of the round robin event in the girls’ 14-year-old doubles competition.

Alcantara, the fifth seed, had to retire from her singles’ match against second-seeded Margaret Spalitta of New Orleans due to an injury.

Silvio Alcantara of LaPlace lost his match in round three of the boys’ 14- year-old singles consolations to J. Sanford of New Orleans, 6-0, 6-0.Charlie Jones of Destrehan fell in his 12-year-old singles’ consolation match to Ashneil Soni of Baton Rouge, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, Monday.

GRAMERCY SWIMMERS SUCCESSFUL AT MEET – GRAMERCY – Cassie Martin and Laurie Luersen of the Gramercy Swim Club were triple winners at a recent meet against Jefferson Terrace in Gramercy.

Double winners for Gramercy were Kyle Jackson, Keri Zeringue and T.J. Millet.
