St. John Parish Day at Zephyr Field is June 15. First pitch is scheduledfor 6:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Recreation Office for $5. All local churches are invited to participate in the St. John ParishChurch League. Games will be played on Friday night. Deadline forregistration is June 16. LaPlace Little League (NOAH) will be holding its mid-season tournament June 2-4. Games begin on June 2 at 5:30 p.m.; June 3 at 9 a.m.,running to 5 p.m.; and June 4 at 1 p.m., running to 5 p.m.There is no charge for admission and spectators are welcome. Softball tryouts for incoming freshmen at Lutcher High School will be held at the school’s softball field June 5-7 from 10 a.m. to noon. East St. John High School has openings for the following positions:head baseball coach, head softball coach, assistant softball coach and two assistant football coaches. The 2000 Riverside Speed and Agility Camp will be held June 5-8 at the school. Tim Taffi, who has been a speed and strength coach for fiveyears, is the camp director. He will be assisted by Riverside athletes. Formore information contact Taffi at Riverside at 536-4246.

St. Charles Catholic baseball coach Frank Monica is holding twobaseball camps this spring at the school.

The sixth annual Norco Lions Golf Classic will be held Saturday, June 10, at Willowdale Country Club in Luling.

There will be a 2 p.m. shotgun start.The cost is $70 per golfer. The fee includes cart, greens fee, dinner, doorprizes and long drive and closest to the pin competition.

Drinks provided all day on the course including beer, soft drinks, sport drinks and bottled water.

Nicholls State University baseball coach B.D. Parker will hold fourdifferent sessions of his Bayou Baseball Camps in June at Raymond E.

Didier Field on the Colonel campus.

The dates of the four sessions are June 5-8, 12-15, 19-22 and 26-29, and are open to boys ages 5 through 18. The camp runs from 9 a.m. To 4 p.m.Each day and the cost of a session is $155, which includes lunch and a T- shirt.

The purpose of the camp is to provide quality instruction on all aspects of the game as well as lectures regarding the mental aspects of being successful on and off the field. Campers will be divided into appropriateage and skill level groups.

The Nicholls State University Athletics Department’s second annual Coaches Caravan will be making a stop at Bull’s Corner Restaurant in LaPlace June 20.

The tour will feature the head coaches of all 15 intercollegiate sports.

Selected assistant coaches and staff members will also be in attendance.

The Caravan will also make stops at Beck’s in Raceland on June 5, Hill’s Lounge in Thibodaux on June 6, Randolph’s in Golden Meadow on June 8, the Holiday Inn in Morgan City on June 12, Bayou Vue Cafe in Houma on June 14 and First and Last Chance Cafe in Donaldsonville on June 22.

Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy in LaPlace is holding a summer gymnastics training camp for ages 5 and up June 5 through August 18.

The Ray Guy Kicking Academy and Talent Search is being held at Tulane University June 3-4.

The camp is open to anybody who is at least 10 years of age. The two-dayprogram of concentrated instruction focuses on the specific skills of kicking and punting. Those who attend will train to improve their skillsusing lectures, demonstrations, video analysis, developmental drills and individual instruction. The Academy is one of the most comprehensiveinstructional programs of its kind, featuring football’s best collegiate and professional kickers and punters.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.

The Golf Sampler Card is $39 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 49 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of thegold card will also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golf towel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12 in-school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievementand its 900 volunteers will teach more than 25,000 local students in over 140 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
