4-Hers get together for day of activities

ST. JAMES – Students from across St. James Parish hooted and holleredand kicked up their heels at the St. James High School gymnasium May 2,gathered for their annual achievement day.

With a school year full of safety programs, livestock shows, community projects and other special events, 4-H Club members from every school in the parish were awarded for the efforts and excellence in the 4-H Club.

Stomping their feet and chanting praises, the various schools celebrated not only their own school’s achievements, but the feats of all the schools.

The 4-H program tied the schools together with a spirit of unity, evident in their support for their friends.

“Many of the activities the kids see each other over and over again. Withinterschool relationships encouraged this program gives them a chance to get together with their friends” as well as award them for their achievements, said Ken Guidry, St. James 4-H agent.The students participated in a parade of banners, club yells, club songs and talent show competitions. The gym was awash with 4-H pride as thestudents were judged for their team events.

“There was a lot of spirit and a great show of sportsmanship,” said Elvis Cavalier, director of student programs.

Numerous awards, collected from all the programs over the school year, were given out to the students during the course of the afternoon.

“Everything went wonderfully. It’s was a great turnout,” said Guidry.
