Bergeron places second at Metro

NEW ORLEANS – Brett Bergeron continued his hot play of the spring, finishing second at the Metropolitan Amateur Championships held this weekend at Eastover Country Club.
Bergeron shot a one-over par 217 in the three day event, finishing a stroke behind Tommy Brennan of Covington. It was the fourth title for Brennansince the event’s inception in 1993.
Bergeron, who won the Class 2A golf title with Riverside earlier this month, pulled even with Brennan on Sunday with a par on the 17th hole. He got upand down for a par on 18 but Brennan sank a 10-foot birdie putt to clinch the title Both golfers shot two-over par 74 on the final day.
Bergeron and Brennan each shot one-under par 71 on the first day Friday, four shots behind Metairie’s Michael Migliore who had a competitive course- record 5-under par 67. Brennan shot a second consecutive 71 on Saturdayto take a one shot lead over Bergeron, who shot an even par 72, Migliore and Gary Brewster.
