Murder indictments handed down by St. John grand jury

EDGARD – On Wednesday, a St. John Parish grand jury indicted two LaPlacemen in the death of 15-year-old Joshua Sanders who was killed on April 3.

Adrian Dunn, 21, 1507 Grant St. is charged with first-degree murder andRubin Bell, 18, 1828 Lee Drive, is charged as a principal to first-degree murder.

During a four-day spree in April, authorities said that both men targeted individuals that were using local car washes. They would then steal the carand rob and kill the owner.

On April 3, Sanders was in his car talking to a friend when Bell and Dunn allegedly pulled out a Mac-11 semiautomatic handgun and forced Sanders and his friend to drive out to the end of Belle Terre Boulevard, where Sanders was shot and killed after the robbers told him to get out of the car. Sanders’friend was unhurt and managed to run and phone for help. Sanders was aneighth-grader at Leon Godchaux Junior High School.

Three days later, authorities said that the pair repeated the crime at a Vacherie car wash, killing Vacherie resident Keith Williams, 50 and wounding Huey Oubre, 54, also of Vacherie.

Dunn and Bell were indicted by a St. James Parish grand jury last week onsimilar charges. Both men could face the death penalty if convicted.At his arraignment on Wednesday, Bell pleaded innocent. Dunn goes to anarraignment hearing on June 5.

St. John Parish Sheriff Wayne L. Jones said that after their arrest, both menconfessed to the crimes. The belongings of the victims and the gunauthorities believe was used in the crimes were found in the possession of the suspects, he added.

Also on Wednesday, the St. John Parish grand jury indicted a Vacherie man inthe killing of an Edgard man in early April.

On April 1, Donald James Favorite, 22, Vacherie got into an argument with Brice Groves of Edgard outside an Edgard nightclub. Favorite got into his carand claimed someone threw a rock at the car. Favorite began firing a semi-automatic handgun out the car window and hit Grows four times, the indictment said.

Favorite has been indicted for second-degree murder.
