Tigers heading to state tourney

BOUTTE – Kade Rogers scored on Tim Sirmon’s two-out single in the first inning, giving Brain Risinger all the runs he would need as Hahnville defeated Catholic of Baton Rouge, 1-0, Monday in the Class 5A regionals.
Hahnville advances to the Class 5A state tournament Friday at Acadian Ball Field in New Iberia with a 23-7 record. The Tigers will play Covington, a 4-2winner over Jesuit Monday, in the quarterfinals. Catholic completed itsseason at 24-13.
Rogers led off the bottom of the first with a walk off Catholic starter Hunter Spedale and went to second on Chris Hawkins’ single. With two outs,Sirmon singled to right field with Rogers sliding into home plate and knocking the ball away from catcher Drew Tuminello.
Risinger did the rest, holding the Bears to two hits in running his record to 9- 1 on the season.
Rummel 7, Destrehan 6
DESTREHAN – Xavier Paul hit a home run in the top of the seventh to give Rummel a 7-6 victory over Destrehan in the Class 5A regionals Saturday afternoon.
Rummel (29-5) plays the winner of the Lafayette-Airline regional in the quarterfinals Friday at Acadiana Ball Field in New Iberia. Destrehan completedits season at 20-14.
Rummel took a 5-0 lead after three innings behind a two-run home run by Jacobi Frank in the second inning.
Destrehan closed to within 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run by double by Randy Roth and an RBI ground out by Craig Naquin.
Matt Liuzza homered in the fifth to make it 6-3 but Roth answered with a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning to make it a one-run game. Pinchrunner Josh Johnson tied the game in the sixth on an errant pickoff throw after Larry Matherne had walked.
Pat Murphy got the win in relief for the Raiders. Nathan Maggiore (4-6) wentthe distance for the Wildcats.
E.D. White 3, St. Charles Catholic 2
THIBODAUX – Two-time defending Class 3A champion E.D. White had to goextra innings to defeat St. Charles Catholic, 3-2, in the Class 3Aquarterfinals Friday afternoon at E.D. White. E.D. White (23-7) advanced to the semifinals where the Cardinals hostedKaplan Tuesday afternoon. Kaplan had defeated Notre Dame, 14-4, in thequarterfinals.
St. Charles Catholic finished at 17-15.With the score tied at two in the bottom of the ninth, Derek Hebert led off with a walk. Matt Matis followed with a double to the wall in left-center withHebert racing home for the game winning run.
Derek Atkins, who relieved starter Jonathan Zeringue after the seventh inning, got the win to improve to 8-2. Dustin Braud took the loss in relief.St. Charles Catholic tied the game in the fourth as Toby Jacob drove in a runand went ahead in the fifth on Jeremy Triche’s single. The Cardinals tied thegame with a run in the sixth.
