Bush, Ledet lead ESJ at Region 2-5A meet

MANDEVILLE – East St. John’s Chris Bush and Melissa Ledet took OutstandingField Performer honors at the Region 2-5A Meet Wednesday afternoon at Mandeville High School.

Bush took first place in the long jump with a jump of 23 feet, 4.75 inches. Hecame back to win the regional title in the triple jump with a jump of 46-6.

Destrehan’s Damian Richard placed second in the long jump with his jump of 23-4.5 and third in the triple jump with a jump of 45-4.The East St. John relay teams took first in the 400 in 42.21 seconds and inthe 800 in 1:27.39. Hahnville’s Skyler Boyle took the regional title in the 200 meters in 21.72seconds.

East St. John took third in the team competition with 49 points. St. Amantcaptured the regional title with 59 points, followed by Fontainebleau with 57.

Matt Hoelle of Fontainebleau won the 1,600 and was second in the 3,200 to win Outstanding Track Performer honors. Baton Rouge’s Fred Townsend wasnamed the overall top performer after winning the high jump and the 110- meter hurdles.

In the girls’ competition, Ledet was second in the long jump with a jump of 16-11.75. Ledet also placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 35-1.25.She would go on to also qualify for the state meet with a third-place time of 16.99 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.Teammate Courtney Drayton qualified in the javelin with a second place throw of 116-1. And Natalie Hargrove qualified for the 400 meters with a third-place time of 59.19.East St. John placed fourth with 40 points. Baton Rouge was the regionalchampion with 105 points. East Ascension was second with 90 points andhost Mandeville third with 60 points.

East Ascension’s Natalie Gillis was named the Outstanding Track Performer after taking both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. East Ascension’s SherriAndrews was the overall top performer after winning the 100 and 200.

The top three finishers in each event qualify for the LHSAA Class 5A state track and field meet Saturday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Fieldevents begin at 8:15 a.m., followed by track events at 4 p.m.
