Wishom, Griffin leads Lutcher track

THIBODAUX – Jerron Wishom took first place in the long jump and 110-meter hurdles to help Lutcher place second at the District 9-3A meet at E.D. WhiteWednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs finished with 111 points. Donaldsonville won the districtchampionship with 128 points. E.D. White came in third with 75 points,followed by St. Charles Catholic with 26 points and St. James with six.Wishom took the long jump with a jump of 21 feet, three inches. TeammateClarence Weber was third with a jump of 20-6. Weber went on to take first inthe triple jump with a jump of 43-9. Wishom was first in the hurdles in 14.72seconds, followed by teammate Ricardo Williams in 15.01.The Bulldogs also got a first place finish in the shot put from Ben Dicharry with a throw of 49-1.5. Dicharry added a third place finish in the discus witha throw of 137-11. E.D. White’s Derek Atkins was the district champion witha throw of 158-1.
The Cardinals’ J.J. Tabor took first in the javelin with a throw of 204-4.Lutcher’s William Adams took second with a throw of 201-6, followed by teammate Thomas Ricks with his throw of 172-11.
Donaldsonville’s Mike McKinney set a district record with a jump of 6-6 in the high jump. Jeremy Foreman of Lutcher tied Josh Morvant of E.D. White forsecond with a jump of 6-2. And Ross Becnel of St. James came in second inthe pole vault with a vault of 11-6, finishing behind E.D. White’s RossHerbert’s vault of 12-0.
The Lutcher relay team won the 800 in 1:29.59, edging out Donaldsonville’s1:30.04. The Bulldogs also took first in the 1600 with a time of 3:33.03.Donaldsonville came in second in that event and took the 400 in 43.59. St.Charles Catholic was third in 45.91.Lutcher’s Kenneth Johnson won the 200 in 22.85 and was third in the 100 in11.55. Donaldsonville’s Matt Darville won that event in 11.12. St. CharlesCatholic’s Andre Ory was the district champion in the 3,200 in 11:00.64.Lutcher’s Devin Gaines placed third in the 1,600 in 4:56.96, finishing behindDonaldsonville’s Chad Templet’s 4:52.73 and E.D. White’s Ross Duncan’s4:56.78. And the Bulldogs’ David Pittman was second in the 400 in 52.16,placing behind E.D. White’s Jon Shanklin’s district-record time of 49.23.In the girls’ competition, Tiffany Griffin won the shot put and the javelin and Keondra Robertson set a district record in the 400 meters to help Lutcher place third with 72 points. E. D. White won the district championship with 135points, followed by Donaldsonville with 94. St. Charles Catholic placed fourthwith 47 points with St. James fifth with four points.Griffin won the shot put with a throw of 33-7 and came up with a winning throw of 117-10 in the javelin. St. Charles Catholic’s Courtney Vicknair tookthird in that event with a throw of 104-0. Griffin also placed third in thetriple jump with a jump of 30-4.75. E.D. White’s Alysha Benoit won thedistrict championship with a jump of 31-2.5. St. James’ Ashton Grant tookthird in the discus with a throw of 91-0, placing behind district champion Kim Landry of Donaldsonville who had a throw of 95-3.
St. Charles Catholic’s Cristin Clement won the long jump with a jump of 15-2.Lutcher’s Jennifer Detillier was second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4- 6. E.D. White’s Lauren Chauvin won the event with a jump of 4-8. Detillier alsotook third in the pole vault with a vault of 6-6. E.D. White’s Julia Greniervaulted a record 7-6 to take the district title.
In the track events, Robertson set a district record in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.64. St. Charles Catholic’s Amanda Helm was third in the 1,600in 6:08.42. E.D. White’s Megan Kliebert won the title in 6:01.05. The LadyComets’ Katie Arcuri was third in the 100 in 13.27, behind Donaldsonville’sCrystal Brooks’ 12.45. And St. Charles Catholic’s Jennifer Owens was third inthe 800 in 3:02.80, behind E.D. White’s Lindsey Foret’s 2:30.05. Lutcher’s Lacey Millet was third in the 3,200 in 15:31.66. E.D. White’s MariaDaigle was first in 13:02.91. The Lutcher relay teams took second in boththe 800 (1:50.64) and the 1,600 (4:41.15) and third in the 400 (54.20) whileSt. Charles Catholic was second in the 400 in 52.36. Donaldsonville had arecord-setting time of 50.81 in winning the event.The top three finishers in each event qualify for the District III regionals today at Donaldsonville.
