Eagles clinch district title

RESERVE – The Reserve Christian Eagles clinched their first baseball District 12-B title with an 11-1 victory over Mt. Hermon Saturday at Loranger.Both teams had finished at 3-1 in the district in the regular season, forcing the playoff. Reserve Christian, 11-9 overall, now heads into the Class Bplayoffs as the first team out of the district. The Eagles will play in theLHSAA bi-district playoffs for the first time Thursday against a team to be announced.
Mt. Hermon fell to 8-10 overall with the loss.Paul Labiche picked up the win for the Eagles, striking out 13 and allowing just two hits, to improve to 5-1 on the season. Labiche also did it at theplate, going 2-for-3. Seth Guidry also went 2-for-3 with a run batted in whileNathan Louque doubled and drove in two runs.
“We hit the ball real well,” Reserve Christian coach Tim Byrd said. “It was thebest we played all year. Paul did a whale of a job for us. We came outaggressive and did a lot of good things.”Reserve Christian jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Mt.Hermon got a run back in the fourth but the Eagles came back with three more runs in the bottom of the inning and added two in the sixth. The eaglescollected 11 hits while capitalizing on seven Mt. Hermon errors.
