East St. John sweeps district

MATHEWS – East St. John used victories in the running events to run awayfrom the competition at the District 7-5A track and field meet held Wednesday at Central Lafourche.
The Wildcats took the boys’ competition with 100.5 points. Hahnville wassecond with 95.5 points, followed by South Terrebonne with 83 andThibodaux with 79. Destrehan placed seventh with 43 points.The East St. John girls’ team completed the sweep with 159 points.Thibodaux came in second with 140 points, followed by Central Lafourche with 65 and South Lafourche with 57. Destrehan was fifth with 51 points andHahnville seventh with eight.
Chris Bush led the way for the Wildcats, winning two events and taking second in another. He won the triple jump with a jump of 46-3.75 and thejavelin with a throw of 162-7.5. Bush finished behind Destrehan’s DamianRichard in the long jump with a jump of 23-1.25. Richard was first with ajump of 24-05. Richard also took second in the triple jump with his jump of45-10.5.Hahnville’s Christian Fiffie captured the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-5.
Fiffie was also third in the long jump with a jump of 44-5. Destrehan’sJeremy Parquet placed second in the shot put with a throw of 46-0.5.In the track events, East St. John took the 800-meter relay in 1:29.27. TheWildcats also won the 400-meter relay in 42.89 and were third in the 1,600meters in 3:32.36. Hahnville won the 1,600 meters in 3:29.49 and placedsecond in the 800 and 400 in 1:30.81 and 43.30, respectively. Hahnville’sSkyler Boyle won the 200 in 21.84. In the girls’ competition, East St. John’s Melissa Ledet won the long jump witha jump of 17-3.25 and was second in the triple jump with a jump of 34-7. Shealso placed second in the hurdles in 17.32 seconds. The Lady Cats’ Courtney Drayton was first in the javelin with a throw of 104-3.5.The East St. John relay teams won the 800 meters in 1:45.79 as well as the400 in 50.21. Yoshiko Taylor was first in the 3,200 meters with a time of13:35.39 and came in second in the 1,600 in 6:03.64. Lakenjie Pattersonwas first in the 100 in 12.41 and second in the 200. Natalie Hargrove of EastSt. John won the 400 in 60.70.
